The 11 Best Quillbot Alternatives in 2023

Last Updated on March 2, 2023 by Alex Birkett

I’m a writer, but I’ll use any tools available to improve my writing…

…Including paraphrasing software like Quillbot.

Quillbot is a popular paraphrasing tool, citation generator, grammar checker, plagiarism checker, and AI copywriting assistant.

Founded in  2017 by Rohan Gupta, Anil Jason and David Silin, Quillbot is a copywriting tool that can instantly help write creative content for you. The company is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Depending on your use case and complexity, Quillbot may or may not be the best solution for you. Luckily, there are tons and AI copywriting tools on the market today of varying budgets and features.

Today we’ll be looking at the 11 best Quillbot alternatives in 2023 so you can easily replace it with one of these tools if needed!

What is Quillbot?

Quillbot is a writing outsourcing platform that uses artificial intelligence to generate content for you. Most people use it to paraphrase content they’ve already written. You can actually generate rewritten text on their site for free without even signing up for an account:

One big downside of Quillbot is that they only generate copy in English, at least for the moment. Their website states that they have plans in the future to facilitate many other languages.

The main feature they’re known for is their paraphrasing tool which lets you take any article or post written by anyone else and generate a completely unique piece of content using the same words but with different structure and flow.

The basic interface has several writing styles you can choose from, including formal, simple, creative, expand, and shorten (though several are only available on the paid plan).

Outside of their paraphrasing tool, they also offer a grammar checker (so it can also be your Grammarly alternative), a summarizer, a citation generator, a new plagiarism checker, and an all encompassing co-writer. The co-writer is similar to other full service AI generators like Jasper and Copy AI:

Their grammar checker is quite nice as well (and can be used on the freemium version):

And here’s the rewritten version:

Quillbot also comes as a Chrome extension and Microsoft Word add-on.

Quillbot has tons of features available on their free plan, and the premium upgrade is only $8.33 per month. This makes it one of the most affordable tools on the market.

However, there are many downsides. As a paraphrasing tool, it’s pretty good. But it’s not great at generating net new sales copy or content suited for search engines.

They have many features, but they’re not the best at any one thing – rather, it’s a great all-in-one writing assistant, and it’s got a very cheap price tag.

If you have different needs – say, producing high quality content at scale or using AI to help you optimize your search rankings – there are other Quillbot alternatives to look into. We’ll cover 11 of them here.

Editor’s note: I’m going to use some affiliate links when possible to try to earn some revenue from my content. These don’t change the opinions espoused in the content nor the style in which they are written. If I think a product sucks, I’m not going to say otherwise. This is just a bonus and a way to fund the whole operation. Anyway, enjoy the article!

1. Jasper AI

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.42.51 am

Jasper AI is one of the biggest copywriting tools on the market. It’s also my favorite one.

This tool uses GPT-3 to help you write any form of content, from long form blog posts to Facebook ad copy.

The tool uses AI technology to analyze your writing and make suggestions to improve it. It also includes a paraphrasing feature that allows you to repurpose your content into smaller pieces like Tweets and LinkedIn posts.

I use their paraphrasing feature for my own personal brand (when I repurpose my blog post into Tweets and LinkedIn posts) as well as brands I work with at my content agency.

Jasper is a tool with endless features, templates, and recipes. While I believe they’re one of the best alternatives for Quillbot specifically because of their long form content capabilities, they’ve also got ready made templates for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, ad copy, email copy, and headlines.

Jasper is a tool that assists my creativity instead of replacing it.

Price: $24/mo for their basic plan when paid annually. However, you should opt for boss mode, which starts at $49/mo. They also include a 5-day 100% money back guarantee.

G2 score: 4.8/5

2. Copy AI

Copy AI is an AI-powered copywriting assistant.

It can help you write better copy, more content, and more sales copy with its unique technology and templates. Copy AI is a powerful tool for businesses looking to generate engaging and high-quality content that’s optimized for search engines.

The best part? You don’t have to be a writer or designer (or even know how to use WordPress) in order to get started. With Copy AI, anyone can create beautiful content with ease—all you need is your imagination and a good content brief (AKA instructions for the AI).

I’m using Copy AI right now as I type this blog post—and it’s helping me outline what I want my audience to know about QuillBot alternatives as well as writing key points about each alternative we’ll discuss below:

You can see there are some inaccuracies (such as Quillbot being founded in 2012 – untrue – and also being founded by Brian Dean – also untrue – and also the fact that Brian Dean founded Moz – again, untrue).

So this thing requires a good content brief and some editorial oversight. But it’s overall a fantastic tool that speeds up my content creation process.

They have a great paraphrasing tool as well.

In my opinion, Copy AI is the second best alternative to Quillbot. It’s quite affordable as well. Bonus: they have a freemium plan that is quite feature rich.

Price: $35 per month (though they have a generous free version you can try out).

G2 score: 4.9/5

3. Frase

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.46.03 am

Frase.io is a machine learning tool that can help you write better content.

They have multiple features to help you do so.

First, you can create really robust content briefs. All you have to do is enter your target keyword, and Frase will generate a bunch of topics, headlines, subheadlines, citations, and word count suggestions for your essay.

Then you can also use this feature for content optimization. If you have, say, a piece of content that ranks on page 3 but you want to boost it up to page one of Google, all you have to do is use Frase’s Optimize feature. They suggest a bunch of keywords and give you a score to aim for:

Screen shot 2022-08-07 at 7.55.04 am

This makes it a lot like Surfer SEO, MarketMuse, Clearscope and other alternatives.

As for a Quillbot alternative, they also have a sentence rewriter. You can use either the formal or regular template to generate new sentences:

Screen shot 2022-08-07 at 7.56.15 am

Their AI writing feature actually has tons of ready made templates, including AIDA framework for sales copywriting and a full blog post generator.

Frase is a wonderful platform for everything you need to optimize your content, from content briefs and research to actually generating and paraphrasing text.

Price: $44.99/mo for the starter plan, which gets you 1 user seat and 30 Document Credits

G2 score: 4.8/5

4. Anyword

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.46.36 am

Anyword is an AI copywriting assistant that uses predictive analytics to assist your writing process.

It not only helps generate content, but it helps you optimize your copy for sales or for search engine rankings.

Anyword has a predictive performance score that helps you see if your content is going to generate sales or rankings before you even click publish—so there’s no more waiting two weeks for results!

Anyword allows you to describe your target audience and get AI-generated copy geared toward your specific customers.

The software also has a feature called “customers like these” which generates similar customers based on their demographics and psychographics (what they look like).

This feature can be used as inspiration when writing blog posts and website pages, as well as social media posts that resonate with those audiences.

Price: Starts at $16 /month but you can try it for free

G2 score: 4.8/5

5. Hypotenuse AI

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.46.50 am

Hypotenuse AI is a good alternative to Quillbot if you’re working in ecommerce or retail.

A good use case is product descriptions: if you have thousands of SKUs, you’ll get a lot of value out of their AI copywriting software to rewrite and generate new copy.

The full-service AI writing assistant helps generate sales copy, product descriptions, and blog posts. It’s also a powerful tool for rewriting and rephrasing content as well.

It’s easy to use and fairly new on the marketing scene, but I like it a lot!

Price: starter plan is $29/mo

G2 score: 4.2/5

6. Copysmith

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.47.03 am

Copysmith is a copywriting software built for agencies and ecommerce retailers that makes it easy to write unique, high-quality content.

It’s a paid tool that costs $19/month and includes a freemium option.

Copysmith has some similarities with Quillbot but differs in some key areas. For example, Copysmith is best suited to create lots of short copy like product descriptions and meta tags, while Quillbot is better at writing longer content such as blog posts or sales pages.

Price: $19 per month for their starter plan, which includes 75 Credits / up to 40k words and 20 Plagiarism Checks / mo

G2 score: 4.2/5

7. Semrush

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.47.15 am

Semrush is a competitive intelligence tool that helps you to find out your competitor’s keywords, backlinks, and PPC campaigns.

Semrush is an effective tool for finding out the keywords that your competitors are using in their content. You can also see how well they rank for those keywords and what ad copy they use to drive traffic to their site. Semrush will even give you suggestions on other search terms that might be relevant to the ones your competitor is already ranking for!

The whole SEO platform is useful but they also have a great (and free) writing assistant that can replace Quillbot.

The writing assistant gives you tips on how to rephrase or improve your writing. You can use it for long form blog posts or just short bits of copy as well – all it requires is a Google Docs add-on or part of the broader Semrush platform.

Price: the writing assistant is free

G2 score: 4.6/5

8. ProWritingAid

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.47.30 am

ProWritingAid is a grammar checker, but it also does plagiarism detection and sentence structure analysis. It’s useful for business writing, creative writing, and academic writing. A multi-purpose swiss army knife!

ProWritingAid is free as a Chrome extension. The monthly plans start at only $20 per month. There’s no automatic paraphrasing feature, but they have a variety of tools to help you improve the structure of your writing, including suggested synonyms and stylistic tips.

This tool is ideal if you’re looking for something beyond just grammar checking. It also has features that help you improve the clarity of your sentences and paragraphs by identifying unnecessary words or phrases (like “in order to”) or suggesting better alternatives (“because”).

Price: Free! Upgrade for $20 a month or get lifetime access for $399

G2 score: 4.4/5

9. Wordtune

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.47.44 am

Wordtune is a free tool that helps you rewrite your content for better SEO results.

They have a live demo on their website so you can see how it works. Wordtune is wildly easy to use and, in my experience, it produces remarkably good copy.

It’s a very simple tool. Basically, it only does rewriting and paraphrasing. It doesn’t do keyword research or any other fancy features like that—but if all you need is some quick rewriting done (or a great way of generating ideas for content), Wordtune can help you out big time.

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.48.36 am

Price: you can use their freemium plan, and then their premium plan is only $9.99/mo

G2 score: 4.2/5

10. WordAI

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.49.14 am

WordAI is a natural language processing engine that can generate a large number of unique, readable and high-quality content.

The WordAI platform uses advanced artificial intelligence technology to understand the intent of the text and then rewrite it to produce a natural and human-like result.

WordAI isn’t only good for writing content differently, but it actually seems to improve writing by making it more engaging and easier to read by people. All of their copy generations pass a Copyscape plagiarism test. You can start out with a free trial and then the cheapest plan begins at $57/month. This plan includes the following features:

  • AI-powered rewriter
  • Human quality content
  • One click rewriting
  • Rewrites pass Copyscape
  • Sentence and phrase level rewriting
  • Bulk article rewriting
  • API access

Price: $57 per month (start with a free trial)

G2 score: 3.8/5

11. Speedwrite

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.50.26 am

Speedwrite is a free, automatic text generator and sentence paraphraser. It’s incredibly popular, but in my opinion, it’s one of the weakest tools on the market.

Speedwrite saves you time by letting you copy-paste content into its interface to get back paraphrased or rewritten text. You can also upload documents for conversion into various formats like PDF, DOCX and HTML.

Screen shot 2022-08-02 at 10.55.28 am

Speedwrite is simple to use but not very feature rich (no options for modifying your rewrite). If you’re just looking for something to quickly generate some paraphrased content from existing texts—and don’t care about style or formatting—then Speedwrite will work well enough for your needs.

They’re also primarily English focused, though it can theoretically also work with other languages. According to their website, “Speedwrite works best on English, and is optimized for the generation of English texts. You might also find that it works fairly well on languages close to English, for example Spanish, and French. The more different a language is from English, the worse it will work. For example Arabic or Mandarin will not work well, at all.”

Overall, I don’t really like Speedwrite and think there are much better alternatives, including Quillbot.

Price: mostly free, though you can upgrade and get 6000 predictions per month for $19.99 per month

G2 score: NA

These are the best Quillbot alternatives in 2023

If you’re looking for the best Quillbot alternative, this should give you a good starting place.

There are tools I deliberately didn’t include on this list, by the way – including Spinner Chief, Spin Rewriter, Chimp Rewriter, and other article rewriter tools. I just think they’re not that good compared to the other alternatives here.

I also didn’t include plagiarism checkers and grammar checkers like Grammarly, Hemingway, or Copyscape. Spelling and grammar tools fall outside the landscape of Quillbot alternatives, though they are great tools as well.

I’d highly recommend going for a powerful AI writer like Jasper or Copy AI.

If you need a full suite of SEO optimization, Frase is the way to go.

If you just need a straightforward article rewriter, Wordtune is amazing.
